About Me
My passion for travel truly took flight after completing my degree, when I embarked on a life-changing eight-month round-the-world trip through North America, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, and Thailand. That adventure sparked a lifelong career in travel, and now—more than 20 years later—my enthusiasm for exploring the world remains undiminished.
What I love most about travel is the sensory experience: the sights, sounds, and smells of a new place; the heat, the humidity, and the energy in the air. I find it enriching to immerse myself in different cultures and values—it not only broadens my perspective but makes me appreciate my own heritage even more.
Before joining Inspiring Travel, I spent ten years each at a major airline and a luxury tour operator. These roles gave me the chance to visit some of the world’s best hotels and destinations regularly. What drew me to Inspiring Travel was the opportunity to combine my love of world-class travel with my other passion: sport. I feel incredibly fortunate to have built a career that blends both into something truly enjoyable and rewarding.
Personally, I believe in travelling as often and as far as possible. I always seek out local guides when I arrive somewhere new—they bring a destination to life in ways that make each trip unforgettable.
My Travel Specialism
My travel expertise lies in the Far East, a region I’ve been fortunate to visit three times—and each visit leaves me even more captivated. I’m drawn to the complete shift in atmosphere the Far East offers: the rich scents of street food, the enveloping warmth of the climate, the spiritual soundtrack of temples, and the seamless blend of ancient tradition with luxurious modernity. It's a true sensory reset from everyday life.
One of the standout experiences of my travels was a Scenic River Cruise along the Mekong Delta. As the ship drifted through the jungle at dusk, I listened to children playing in riverside hamlets and the distant call to prayer, with the smoky scent of campfires on the breeze. From the deck of a luxury riverboat, I soaked in jungle vistas that have remained untouched for centuries. When a thunderstorm rolled in, the evening unfolded below deck with fine dining and an unforgettable sense of place.
What I love about this region is its diversity. In one journey, you can experience high-tech Singapore, then find yourself blessed by a monk in an ancient Cambodian temple. You might explore the bustling, high-energy streets of Bangkok one day, and the serene, wildlife-rich jungles of Borneo the next.
Outside of the Far East, I have a real soft spot for the Greek Islands—I've visited seven so far, each with its own unique charm. I also love skiing and have hit the slopes in the US, Canada, and across Europe, with Austria being a personal favourite for both scenery and atmosphere.
My most memorable travel experiences
I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy some truly unforgettable travel moments—those pinch-me experiences that stay with you forever. From skiing the last run of the day beneath a glowing alpine sky to catching fresh morning tracks in untouched snow, I find a unique peace and thrill in the mountains. Hiking up Table Mountain was another bucket-list achievement—challenging but absolutely worth it for the panoramic views across Cape Town and the Atlantic.
In the Far East, trekking through the jungles of Borneo remains a powerful memory. Surrounded by dense, ancient forest and incredible biodiversity, it felt like stepping into a completely different world—one where nature still reigns.
But the standout experience for me has to be gorilla trekking in Rwanda. With only a maximum of ten people allowed to visit each gorilla family per day, it was a deeply personal and special experience.
My favourite destination: Cambodia
Cambodia stands out as one of my all-time favourite destinations—a truly fascinating country steeped in rich history and culture. What I love most is exploring the awe-inspiring temple complexes of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, where ancient stone carvings and jungle-wrapped ruins transport you to another time. One of my most memorable moments was watching the sun set over Angkor Wat—a golden glow settling over the iconic spires, creating a scene that was both peaceful and unforgettable.
My favourite hotel: One&Only Cape Town
One&Only Cape Town is my top pick when it comes to standout stays. Perfectly located at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, it offers effortless access to the heart of the city while feeling like a tranquil escape. The island-style swimming pool in the centre of the resort is a particularly refreshing retreat. Each morning, I woke up to breathtaking views of Table Mountain, always wondering whether its famous “tablecloth” of cloud would appear. On my final day, I had the unforgettable opportunity to climb the mountain itself—an experience that made the stay even more special.
